Reflections from Shannon
by Shannon Kennedy, Executive Director
As the Executive Director of an organization that works with some of the most incredible youth in Kansas, I feel like we don’t talk about safety enough, particularly healthy relationships and boundaries, online spaces, and being aware of your own personal safety.
Surrounding yourself with supportive, respectful individuals is crucial. Trust your instincts; if something feels wrong or uncomfortable, it's okay to step back and reassess the situation. Setting boundaries is essential to maintaining healthy relationships and self-respect. Know your limits and communicate them clearly to others. It's okay to say no and prioritize your well-being. Your safety and happiness should always come first.
When it comes to online safety, it's important to be vigilant and proactive. One fundamental rule is never to provide personal information or send pictures when requested online. Your personal information is like a treasure trove; once it's out there, it can be challenging to control who has access to it. Whether it's your address, phone number, or any other identifying details, keep them guarded like precious gems.
Remember, online interactions can sometimes be misleading, and not everyone has good intentions. Stay vigilant, trust your instincts, and never feel pressured to disclose personal information or share photos to gain approval or validation.
Prioritizing safety in all aspects of your life is key to your overall well-being. Remember that you deserve to feel safe, respected, and valued in all your interactions. As an organization, we are committed to supporting you in this journey and ensuring your safety and well-being.
As always, we are here, Working for YOUth.
