Your Vote, Your Voice: Why Civic Engagement Matters
When I was younger, I often felt like my vote didn’t really matter. It seemed like one person couldn’t make a difference in the big picture. But everything changed when I realized how many youth, including those with disabilities, were struggling due to a lack of support in after-school programs and other vital resources. That’s when I decided I wanted to make a difference and have a real voice in how things get done.
Voting is more than just a responsibility; it’s a powerful tool for making change. It allows you to influence how job opportunities, educational support, and community services are created to be more inclusive for everyone. Each vote is a step towards a society where diversity and equity are celebrated and where everyone’s potential is realized.
To use your vote effectively, it’s important to be informed. As the next election approaches, take the time to learn about what each candidate stands for and how their policies could affect you. Understanding their positions on issues like accessibility, education, and employment can help you make a choice that supports your needs and values.
Getting involved in elections and being informed can truly make a difference. From advocating for better transportation to supporting new job initiatives, each election is an opportunity to push for meaningful change. When you vote, you’re not just advocating for yourself—you’re helping to build a better future for everyone with disabilities.
As Election Day approaches, I encourage you to register, educate yourself on the issues, and make your voice heard. Your vote is powerful—it can help shape policies, break down barriers, and contribute to a more inclusive society.
Let’s continue supporting KYEA’s mission—advocacy and empowerment—by exercising our right to vote. Your participation ensures that the voices of youth with disabilities are heard and respected in our democratic process.
I look forward to seeing you at the polls on Tuesday, November 5th.
