Highlighting helpful resources throughout the state
K-Loan
by Carrie Greenwood, KYEA Program Coordinator
Are you needing to purchase an assistive technology item, but you're not sure if you can afford it? K-Loan is a great option for you!
Assistive technology can be SO helpful, but it also can be so expensive. Sometimes, we really need something, but we don't have the money right away to purchase it. What do you do? Get a loan!
Most traditional places that offer loans limit what special equipment that they finance and the terms offered on such equipment. K-Loan knows how important this equipment is and so they offer longer terms to eligible borrowers on a case-by-case basis. K-Loan gives low interest loans to help people with disabilities and chronic health conditions get a variety of equipment all while building their credit. This funding can be used to help with the purchase of assistive technology equipment like hearing aids, accessible vehicles, sensory aids, communication devices, and home modifications. Assistive Technology (AT) is any kind of device or tool that helps people learn, work, communicate and live more independently. AT can be very simple and inexpensive, like a modified knife and fork, or it can be very sophisticated and costly, like a computerized speech device.
K-Loan staff are also very knowledgeable about other funding sources for assistive technology, so they can provide other ideas and resources as well.
To get a loan, you must apply and be approved. The application can be found on the K-Loan website at https://k-loan.net.
